Senior Jean Ann Douglass has been dancing since age four and has worked with many different styles, ranging from tap to ballet and eventually modern dance when she entered college. Although reluctant at first, modern dance soon became Jean Ann?s favorite style of dance as well as a huge part of her academic and artistic careers.
Douglass is a double major in dance and theatre. Her talent and passion for shine in “I Said to B,” a work in progress that Douglass is choreographing for her Bachelor of Fine Arts dance thesis. The piece involves both actors and dancers; there are many pedestrian, everyday gestures and text by authors ranging from Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Matt Stone. All of these elements come together to form an enthralling work of art that Douglass says includes “consumerism and the way in which it gets in the way of our lives.” Ultimately, though, Douglass “likes having [her] work be pretty open-ended, so people take out what they will.” A final showing of Douglass?s completed work will take place during the last weekend in April.
