Newcomb senate positions open
Newcomb Senate is currently accepting intent to run forms for the 2005 - 2006 school year. Positions available include Senate president, vice president, class presidents and representatives, as well as Undergraduate Student Government representatives. IATU presents Masala
The India Association of Tulane University presents its annual spring cultural show, Masala, Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in Dixon Hall. The program includes songs and dances performed by Tulane students as well as members of the Indian community of New Orleans. Admission is free for all.
2005 Newcomb Daisy Chain
All Newcomb Juniors are invited to apply for the 2005 Newcomb Daisy Chain. The Daisy Chain is a group selected to carry the daisy chain during commencement. Applications are available in the Office of Newcomb Student Programs, 104 Newcomb Hall. All applications are due March 18 at 5 p.m.
Newcomb Notables
The Newcomb Notables will start its third year as a group of selected young ladies who serve as ambassadors to Newcomb College and the Newcomb dean. They assist in hosting events and greeting guests. Newly selected members will join returning members of this past year's group. New members must be able to participate during the entire school year. Newcomb students with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 who are interested in serving Newcomb College are eligible to apply. Each participant will be required to serve at two events per semester, including events like the Women's Faculty Luncheon and the Parent's Weekend Reception. The Newcomb College sophomore class is selling light blue SOFFE-type gym
shorts with hot pink lettering saying “Newcomb” on the back. They are $15 and will be sold until March 18. If you are interested in purchasing, e-mail Haley Dupree at hdupree@tulane.edu or stop by the Newcomb Student Programs Office, 104 Newcomb Hall.
Student Crest Awards
Students, staff and faculty are asked to submit nominations for the student crest awards. Nominations, information and award criteria can be found at http://studentprograms.tulane.edu/crest/. All completed nominations are due to the Office of Student Programs (103 Central Building)†by Monday, March 21 at 5 p.m. The Crest Awards Ceremony will be held April 13 in Rogers Chapel. Australia study abroad summer program
The Aboriginal Australia Community Development Program will be sponsoring a†three-week summer tour in Western Australia from May 22 - June 13. The excursion is open to all Tulane students. It is an opportunity to have a truly unique experience and be a part of "the land down under" that few people ever encounter. Space is limited and†scholarships are available. Submission Call for African and African Diaspora Studies
Tulane's Program in African and African Diaspora Studies is calling for submissions for their 2004-2005 undergraduate awards honoring excellence in research and writing reflecting the experiences of peoples of Africa and its diaspora.
There are three prizes: the Ken Saro-Wiwa Prize for best undergraduate essay in the area of African Studies, the Mahins-Gama Prize for best undergraduate essay on the African diaspora experience in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Zora Neale Hurston Prize for best undergraduate essay on the African-American experience in continental North America and/or the United States.
The competition is open to Tulane University undergraduates. Essays should be 10 to 30 double-spaced pages, including all appendixes and bibliographic materials. To be considered for an award, papers must be submitted by March 31. For additional information, contact Donna Bonner, assistant director, African and African Diaspora Studies, adst@tulane.edu.
Peer health advocates is now accepting applications
Peer Health Advocates are the official volunteers of the Student Health Center and are trained to give complete and accurate information to peers on current health issues like alcohol and drug awareness, safe sex, abstinence, contraceptives, sexually transmitted infections and nutrition. The group is currently recruiting for new members. They are looking for electric personalities that can command the attention of a group or those who are just interested in the topics they cover. Interested students can pick up an application outside room 109 of the Student Health Center or visit the Student Health Center Web site to fill out an electronic application.
