Drug paraphernalia
Tulane University Police Department dispatched officers after someone reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from a room and saw a glass pipe in plain view on a desk. Once the officer arrived at the room, he could smell pot from outside the door. He knocked on the door, and when the student opened it, the officer asked if there was anything else in the room he needed to know about. The student conceded that there were pipes and marijuana in the top right drawer of his desk. A search of the room produced five glass pipes with charred residue, two packs rolling papers, a tobacco grinder, a clear plastic bag containing a vegetable-like matter, three paper clips with resin on them used to clean out the chambers of the glass pipes and a Frisbee with vegetable-matter residue with resin on it. Officers later tested the vegetable-like matter and found that it was marijuana.
Pedestrian hit
A student was crossing Broadway Street at Maple Street when he was struck by a car. The driver called 911 and New Orleans Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene. The student was conscious and walking around when police arrived. He sustained head injuries and was brought to Tulane Medical Center for treatment.
Student hits parked car
A United Cab driver reported seeing a female student driving a Ford sedan strike a tan PT Cruiser while parallel parking. The student did not report the damage and denied the accident until she was told there was a witness. The owner of the damaged car later told TUPD that her car would not start and thought it could be related to the incident.
Police suspect drunk driving
A Loyola law student told police he had been driving home from the Monkey Hill bar on Magazine Street when the curb at Willow Street and Newcomb Place “just jumped up on him.” His car had several flat tires and fluid leaking from it. The student was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Lost wallet
The student told TUPD that he and other ROTC students left their belongings outside the Navy building early last Friday morning before beginning morning exercises. When the students returned from training an hour later the student’s wallet was gone. No other belongings were missing.
