Put up a parking lot? — The Opinions of the Hullabaloo:
Students should be
allowed in the new
parking lot
The decrepit Anthropology Building is turning into a parking lot. We could hate on the environmental significance, but we like parking too. So, The Hullabaloo is a bit curious. Who will be able to park there? Will it only be for the faculty and staff? Only library staff? A mix of students and staff?
Given its prime location, this space would greatly help students find a quick spot to rush to their classes on the Newcomb end of campus. Parallel parking on Broadway Street is as difficult as it sounds, and students already have a hard time finding a spot anywhere on campus.
The McAlister Place Project took away precious parking spaces from students, so it would make sense for the administration to give the new lot the same restrictions as the old McAlister Drive, which did allow commuters to park.
On the other hand, the space seems pretty small. Unless they build a mini-Diboll parking garage, it looks like 30 cars could fit there at most — which, on reflection, sounds a bit absurd.
Don’t get us wrong. Though we’d rather the administration build a new building on this site, as it is big enough to house a new red-bricked Newcomb-style building or at least more administrative offices, we just hope this spot isn’t a big tease like the Boot Store’s lot, where we can only idle for 10 minutes.
Umm… the McAlister Place Project took 0 spots from students, we couldn’t park there during the day anyways.
