Recruitment robbery
A young woman participating in a sorority recruitment activity said she was required to place her coat, watch and sunglasses with a woman she didn’t know at 11:30 a.m. last month. The young woman didn’t know the stranger’s name because of rules during recruitment. About 20 minutes later, she returned to get the items she had left behind, but her watch was missing. The watch, from Michael Kors, was worth $300.
Laptop theft
A student from Sharp Hall reported his laptop missing. He said he saw his laptop in his room Jan. 16 at about 8 p.m., and returned to his room at 3 a.m. He said that when he came back, he went straight to sleep. He and his roommate said that they sometimes left the door unlocked when their friends were there so that they could get into their room without a key. They said they didn’t know if the door had been locked that night. The laptop was an Apple Mac Book Pro, worth $1,200.
Auto theft
A student reported that his car had been stolen from the Diboll Complex. He said he had parked his car on the fourth floor Jan. 29 after he and his friend had driven to Claiborne Avenue in the afternoon, and when he returned to the garage Feb. 2 at 5:40 p.m., it was missing. He owned a Pontiac Trans Am worth $15,000, with a personalized license plate of “Darth V.” The young man and TUPD searched all six floors of the garage and the entire campus for the car, but did not find it.
Damage at Reily
Five Reily Center lockers were damaged Jan 19 by some type of prying tool. The lockers had recently been repaired since previous similar incidents. The damage was determined a result of attempted entry into the lockers. The lockers, now bent out of shape, are unable to secure properly. There were no witnesses available for a description of possible suspects. It is unclear if any items were removed from the damaged lockers.
