Tea Terror

In other parts of the world, there is a name for people who operate in loosely affiliated groups, hoard explosives, hate the government and think that God is on their side.

They are called terrorists. Or insurgents, if we want to be a little more politically correct about it. But I don’t want to mince words when it comes to the dangerous extremism that this movement represents.

So let’s all stop pretending that the Tea Party movement is somehow a legitimate political movement. Contrary to FOX News and the protestations of angry white Christians everywhere, the Tea Party movement has all the features of a domestic terror network.

For those who haven’t been paying attention, there has been a rash of anti-government violence and related arrests during past months. The recent Pentagon shooting and the terror attack on the Austin IRS building are two that the public has noticed, but there are several others. In New Jersey, an active Tea Partier was arrested with a stockpile of weapons and explosives. In Cincinnati, a very active “Oathkeeper” (Tea Party police or military) was jailed for child molestation as well as possession of a 40mm grenade launcher. There were similar arrests in Idaho and Missouri.

The genius of the movement is that the Tea Party groups are only loosely affiliated with one another. So no group has to take responsibility for what the others do. When one Tea Party does something violent, the rest of the movement can claim disassociation. It’s called disorganized resistance, and it’s the principle strategic tool of terror groups.

Some leaders of the Louisiana Tea Party came to Professor James Carville’s class last week to discuss their movement and what they hoped to accomplish. They mostly discussed economics and their feeling that the federal government was spending too much. What they discussed didn’t at all echo the paranoid, delusional, extremist rhetoric I read on their online forums.

These men didn’t discuss secession, nullification, militias or weapons caches. They said the Tea Party movement is just about regular, concerned Americans. Frankly, that’s not true. Regular, concerned Americans don’t stockpile explosives and plot secession. The Tea Party isn’t about regular Americans. It’s about angry, paranoid, well-armed extremists who are aching to start a war.

For those who are still skeptical, I recommend perusing some Tea Party forums. You generally have to sign up with an e-mail address to look at some of the more inflammatory forums, but it’s worth the time.

And for those involved in the Tea Party movement who are offended by the notion that they look like a terrorist organization, I offer the following advice: Stop looking so much like terrorists.

  1. You need to get back on your meds. You’ve gone off the deep end.

  2. You communist are intitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. For example the guy the flew the plane into the IRS building hated Christians, George W Bush, and Capitialism. Read his manifesto, genius.

  3. This actually makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or a few of them turn out to commit some act of terror.

  4. No one in the history of the world has commited more acts of terror on their own people then leftest.

  5. You apparently do not know much about the Tea Party Movement. That’s ok- cause we do.

  6. Chris,
Normally, when someone suggests information they site where they received that information. Unless, they are attempting to sell something they can’t prove, but are following the same information passed on to them but there totally left professors.
Also, is the federal government not spending too much money? They are spending 25% more this year than last and expected to increase by an additional 5% by next year. The fact the most business and home would be bankrupt if they hand their finances in the same fashion as our elected officials.
And why just attack Fox news for their agenda when the other news stations are reporting as to their agenda. Would it be due to the fact that the support your agenda as well. And you also so how slanted your views are when you attack the “White Christians” as you did in this column. Why is it okay if someone is white to attack their race or if they are Christians, you can attack their religion? But any other ethnicities or religions are off limits. I also enjoy that those who are so open minded are always so close minded to those whose opinions differ from yours. Because if you were open minded the views of others hold validity even if they are different from the views you hold.

  7. It’s quite obvious that the rage of the Tea Party will not cease until they do perform some incredible act of stupid violence. And they wondered why it isn’t a good idea to bring your guns to the public square……….

Why attack Fox “news”? I’d say because its owner states quite clearly it is not news, it’s “entertainment”.
