Hilary Farr, star of 'Love It or List It,' reveals her secret health battle.

Hilary Farr, who is best known for her role on HGTV's "Love It or List It," is now speaking out about her years-long battle with breast cancer.

In an interview with People, she detailed her treatments, which included three surgeries.

She told the publication that she hopes to use her story to help others.

"Breast cancer scares a lot of women away from getting checked, but you have to face it," Farr said.

The interior designer, however, would not advise others to fight the illness on their own.

"Believing you should keep it a secret or just push through doesn't help or heal," she continued.

"It's enough if I can make a difference for one person."

Here's what you should know:

In 2012, it all started with a routine mammogram.

Following a lumpectomy, doctors discovered "a suspicious lump" that turned out to be precancerous, according to People.

"I felt so relieved," the 70-year-old told People magazine.

That sense of relief would be fleeting.

Farr had a mammogram while filming in Raleigh, North Carolina, which revealed she had invasive breast cancer.

Farr had a second lumpectomy to remove the tumor.

"I was signed off by the medical oncologist saying, 'You're done. You're fine. Off you go,'" she told People after the procedure.

She found out a few months later that she should have had radiation after the procedure in order to "destroy any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence," according to the publication.

"I was terrified," Farr said, "because I knew I had such a small window."

"I felt absolute fury that someone could be so flippantly wrong. I could have been dead," she said, adding that she filed a complaint and that Farr retired a year later.

According to People, Farr "began a 28-day course of radiation" in March 2015.

Farr had her third lumpectomy just seven months later for what turned out to be another precancerous tumor.

She is now cancer-free.

"Tough Love with Hilary Farr," a new series starring Farr, will premiere in the near future.

In a sneak peek, she said, "For years, I've helped thousands of people love their homes."

"My name is Hilary Farr, and I'm currently working with families who are dealing with issues far more serious than bad floor plans. I'm a little low on sugar, so are you ready for some tough love?"

Farr will help "families improve their lives and homes with a dash of tough love," according to HGTV, in her first solo show.

"Upgrading these spaces will be a challenge," she wrote on Instagram in November 2021, "but transforming these homeowners' lives is where the real work begins. The end result is always worth it."

On December 20,2021, at 9 p.m. Eastern time and 8 p.m. Central time, "Tough Love with Hilary Farr" will premiere.

It will also be available to watch on Netflix's discovery service.
