Michael Evans Behling, star of 'All American,' explains why he doesn't want to be a heartthrob: 'I Want To Be Recognized For Being a Good Actor.'
Micahel Evans Behling plays Jordan Baker, the son of Coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) in the CW series All American.
Jordan is known for his charisma, charm, and sultry good looks.
However, Behling does not want his physical appearance to define his career, which is why he does not want to be labeled a heartthrob.
Michael Evans Behling sat down with Young Hollywood in January 2021 to discuss his role on All American.
On the show, he was referred to as a "heartthrob" by the interviewer.
Behling, on the other hand, does not want to be known solely for his appearance.
He explained, "I don't want to be thought of as a heartthrob."
"When I think of heartthrob, I think of the first thing you see when you see a guy, the physical attraction, and I want to be considered, at some point in my career, for being a good actor first," she says.
Fans in the United States couldn't imagine anyone else in the role of Jordan Baker.
Personal experiences drew actor Michael Evans Behling to the role of the character.
The young actor said in a 2018 interview with Hollywood Life that the role stood out because he has a close relationship with Jordan.
Because the character is a biracial child growing up in America, Behling was drawn to the role.
"Being a biracial kid and living in two worlds," he said, "the fact that I relate a lot to this character."
"Not physically, because he's living this posh life, but when he comes home, he's fighting for his father's approval, whereas I'm not fighting for my father's approval, but sometimes back home, I'm called 'not black' enough, not white enough."
Despite their disparate circumstances, Behling said Jordan's story resonated with him.
"I was like, 'Wow. OK. Jordan's feeling the same way. I know how that feels. I know how to get into that.'" he continued.
"He is that biracial kid living in two worlds, fighting every day for his dad's attention, for his dad's approval, just for love from Dad."
Jordan Baker's many sides have been seen by fans, but All American star Michael Evans Behling would like to focus on one aspect of his character.
Jordan's relationship with his mother Laura (played by Monet Mazur) would be great to see in the CW series, according to the actor in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
He explained, "I think he's had his moments to connect with Billy over the seasons, and it's been great."
"Now I'd like to see him connect a little bit more with Laura, and with that, even connect a little bit more with Crenshaw; we saw a little bit of it in season 1 and maybe even season 2, but for him to try to connect a little bit more with the other half of him would be nice to see."
Behling expressed his desire to see the "mother-son dynamic" explored further.
"However, I'd really like to see him connect with Laura," he added.
"I'd love to see them have that mother-son dynamic because I'm a mama's boy, and I think Jordan could be a mama's boy if he's given the opportunity, and I think that'd be pretty cool to see."
Season 4 of All American premieres on The CW on October 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
