Baker Mayfield's Wife Updates on the Browns QB's Condition

Baker Mayfield is one of several Cleveland Browns players who have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 reserve list, but he appears to be doing fine.

Emily Mayfield, Baker's wife, provided an update on the quarterback via Instagram, posting a photo of him holding a glass of wine.

"He's fine," she wrote, noting that she had come out on top in their card game.

Mayfield is one of nearly 20 Browns players, including 12 starters and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who have tested positive this week.

The Browns are currently in second place in the AFC North standings, trailing only the Baltimore Ravens, who may be without quarterback Lamar Jackson this week.

Following the bye week, the Cleveland offense came alive, though a conservative second half, as Mayfield described it, put a damper on the 24-22 win over the Ravens last Sunday.

Mayfield has been dealing with some serious injuries, as well as the positive test, but his head coach Kevin Stefanski says he remains focused.

"He's locked in, and that's really what everyone has to do, whether they're positive or not, injured or not," Stefanski said on Wednesday, December 16. "We're really trying to deal with things minute by minute and hour by hour here. Baker specifically is locked in."

Mayfield's chances of playing against the Raiders on Saturday are slim, and the Browns' roster moves point to him being unavailable.

Nick Mullens, a practice squad quarterback, was activated on Thursday, making him the team's second quarterback on the active roster behind Case Keenum, who will start.

Mullens, a Southern Mississippi product, is in his fourth NFL season.

Mullens was signed as an undrafted free agent by San Francisco in 2017 and has appeared in 19 games with 16 starts, completing 387 passes for 4,714 yards and 25 touchdowns.

He spent the 2021 season on the Browns' practice squad, where he was active but did not play in Week 7 of the season.

Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said, "Nick is another guy who has played football in the NFL and has had success."

"I know he works hard in the film room and on the side at practice andndash; he stays out after practice and gets opportunities with the other guys; if something were to happen and we needed Nick to show up, I have faith in him, too; I know he has put in the work and has had success in the league."

If Mayfield is ruled out against the Raiders, Browns quarterback Case Keenum will get his second start of the season.

He led the Browns to a 17-14 victory over the Broncos earlier this season.

Keenum feels bad for Mayfield, who has worked hard to stay on the field despite not being able to get his shot to play.

"It's never fun, especially when you're feeling pretty good," Keenum told reporters. "I think you guys all saw how healthy he looked last week."

"I thought he did a fantastic job."

He did an excellent job distributing the ball and making some big plays for us, and he helped us win the game. It's a good time to be playing good football, but we can't look back; we must look forward.

We're going after the Raiders."
