Conor McGregor's request for a rematch has already been denied by Dana White.

UFC president Dana White has already turned down Conor McGregor's request to fight Brazilian star Charles Oliveira.

Since breaking his ankle in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July, McGregor has been out of the octagon.

The Notorious is currently undergoing rehabilitation and anticipates being fighting fit by the middle of next year.

Furthermore, he has a prediction for who his next opponent will be - not that UFC president Dana White seems to agree.

The Notorious sent out a tweet proposing a fight after Oliveira's submission win over Poirier in Las Vegas on Saturday.

McGregor presumptively tweeted, "So what date am I fighting Oliveira?" in response to the 32-year-old's victory.

If White's recent comments are any indication, the answer to that question is 'not anytime soon.' Former UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje appears to be next in line for a shot at Do Bronx.

When asked if Oliveira's next fight will be The Highlight, UFC president Dana White said, "Yeah, it makes sense."

That's bad news for McGregor, who stated earlier this month that he'd fight whoever holds the lightweight title next.

"Hi lads, here goes," he wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

What about your boss?

"I'm up next against whoever the f*** has the LW title."

"Take off your goggles and mark the trilogy as 'unfinished.' Deal with that as well. The rest mentioned after this. Deal. With. It."

After defeating Poirier, Oliveira now holds the lightweight title, but it appears unlikely that he will face McGregor next.

Even if the two did meet, Oliveira appears to be confident that he'd dispatch the Irishman with little difficulty.

"I never choose opponents," he told Esporte in June.

I'm always willing to fight.

The lightweights are two big names in the sport.

"Everyone knows that a fight with Conor is worth a lot of money, whereas a fight with Dustin isn't, but they're both fantastic opponents."

"I don't pick my battles."

"I am confident in my jiu-jitsu against either of them, but I have a feeling that if I were to fight them, I would knock them both out."
