Joel Coen Explains Why the Coen Brothers Split Up After 'Macbeth: A Tragedy'

Joel and Ethan Coen are the Coen brothers, a legendary filmmaking duo.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is a theatrical adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth that will be released soon.

Joel is directing his first film without his brother, Ethan.

In a recent interview, Joel discussed why they parted ways for The Tragedy of Macbeth and whether they will ever collaborate again.

The Coen brothers' films cover a wide range of genres, but they usually turn them on their heads.

So far, they've received 13 Academy Award nominations for their work.

Raising Arizona, No Country for Old Men, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and True Grit are among the Coen brothers' most acclaimed works.

They've also written a few films that they didn't direct, such as Bridge of Spies from 2015.

The Coen brothers have won a number of Academy Awards together.

For Fargo, they won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

No Country for Old Men also won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Tragedy of Macbeth, on the other hand, has a lot of buzz and could be another milestone for Joel.

Joel was interviewed by The Guardian about The Tragedy of Macbeth.

He discussed some of his creative choices in adapting Shakespeare's work.

Joel also discussed working on The Tragedy of Macbeth without his brother as a filmmaking collaborator.

"It's very strange," Joel observed.

"Of course, I missed him. I've worked with him for over 35 years, and if there was ever a problem on set, we'd look at each other first." "But this isn't a film that would have interested him. I had a personal interest in it, and he didn't."

Joel was asked by The Guardian if the breakup is permanent or if they might work together again in the future.

"Listen, here's the deal," Joel explained.

"We never asked ourselves if this was permanent when we started working together, and we don't think about it that way now; we just thought we'd try something new for a while." "But I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. I'm in my late 60s. Hopefully, I can do this for a while - but who the f*** knows?"

The Tragedy of Macbeth is generating a lot of buzz in the awards world.

Denzel Washington gives a powerful performance.

Some viewers are unsure how they will be able to see the upcoming Shakespeare film adaptation.

The Tragedy of Macbeth will be released in theaters on December 24th, just in time for the holidays.

The A24 film, on the other hand, will be available to stream on Apple TV on January 14th.
