Season 6 of 'This Is Us': Chrissy Metz Teases a New Trilogy of Episodes Featuring the Big Three

This Is Us' second season featured three back-to-back episodes, each focusing on one of the Big Three.

Kevin was featured in the first episode, "Number One," Kate was featured in the second episode, "Number Two," and Randall was featured in the third episode, "Number Three."

This trilogy is considered by many fans and critics to be among the best episodes of the series.

Season 6 of This Is Us may include a new trilogy, according to Chrissy Metz.

In season 6, many This Is Us cast members are directing or writing, including Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate Pearson, who is co-writing episode 9 with Casey Gettinger and David Windsor.

"I'm co-writing one episode this year," Metz told People, "and it's really exciting to support fellow actors and people who love trying new things. For me, writing has been a very new venture, but I'm very excited."

"It's really exciting because I think it's going to help my songwriting, which is fantastic," she said. "It's also going to help me understand characters and write for their voices," she added.

"Also, [creator] Dan [Fogelman] is such a great mentor, and I get to write with our writing team, Casey Gettinger and David Windsor, which has been fantastic."

Metz is not only co-writing but also directing This Is Us Season 6 Episode 9 with her co-star, Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson. Moore announced the news on Instagram.

Chrissy Metz appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to talk about her new discovery competition series, Meet Your Makers Showdown, and Season 6 of This Is Us, and she may have accidentally or intentionally teased a major detail about the episode the actor was co-writing. "We just finished [writing the episode]," Metz revealed.

"And then I got the network draft and was like, 'Wait, some of the things I wrote are in the draft?' I didn't think it was going to happen because there are so many rewrites. There are so many different influences and voices."

"And, of course, a whole writers room who have been writing for millions of years," she continued, "and they're like, 'Oh, you're an actor, and you want to write?' And I'm like, 'Please let me try!' So, a lot of my jokes landed and stuck.' I'm really excited. And it's the Kate-centric episode out of the trilogy."

So, we know that Kate is the focus of episode 9 of This Is Us Season 6, but there are two other episodes that will most likely focus on different characters.

And, of course, the Big Three come to mind when we think of things that come in threes on This Is Us.

Kevin, Kate, and Randall may each have their own episode in Season 6, similar to how they did in Season 2.

Chrissy Metz teased a bit about what's to come in This Is Us Season 6 during her interview with Kelly Clarkson.

Metz said, "This season is going to be incredible."

"I'm not sure if anyone has seen the season five finale. Some people haven't, and if you haven't, close your ears. Spoiler alert. We'll get to see how Toby and Kate unravel, and then, of course, we'll be following Rebecca's storyline and her Alzheimer's. It's going to be very emotional, very wonderful, and beautiful."

One of This Is Us' classic flash-forward scenes was featured in the season 5 finale, as many fans recall.

It was five years later, and Kate was getting married to her boss, Phillip.

As a result, the final season will depict Kate and Toby's divorce as well as the beginnings of Kate and Phillip's love story.

Season 6 of This Is Us premieres on NBC on January 4 at 9 p.m. ET.
