When Will 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' Part 2 Be Released?
Fans are more excited than ever for the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse after Sony released footage from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One).
To add to the anticipation, Sony announced alongside the first look at Part One that Part Two is currently in development.
When fans found out the title of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, they immediately focused on the "Part One" aspect of the title, because it's assumed that if a film has "Part One" in its title, there will be a part two.
"Miles' story is an epic," writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise, we realized it was two movies instead of one. We're working on them both right now. Part Two will be out sometime in 2023. We will sleep again in 2024."
With the first film's success, it's no surprise that a third is in the works before the second is even released.
And, thankfully, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) won't be out for long.
According to Lord and Miller, the second sequel will be released only a year after the first, on October 7, 2022.
We must first watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) before we can begin theorizing about Part Two.
And if the first look at the sequel is any indication of its ambition, fans are in for a treat.
Miles is seen in bed, listening to Post Malone's "Sunflower" and, of course, Swae Lee.
Gwen appears from another universe and persuades Miles to flee.
Then we see Miles traveling between dimensions, where he is attacked by Spider-Man 2099.
They fight each other as they travel from one universe to the next.
In the sequel, Lord and Miller explain how they were able to create multiple universes.
"Every dimension looks and feels radically different from all the others," they told Entertainment Weekly, "and they all look like they were drawn by a different artist."
Only three Spider-People have been confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) as of this writing.
The first sequel will star Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara.
"He's been trying to step into big shoes," Lord and Miller said of Miles' activities since the first film. "Realizing it's not so easy to juggle family and growing as a spider-person, and that it's lonely hiding the truth about yourself from the people you love."
According to Lord and Miller, Miles joins Gwen on a journey across the Spider-Verse, where they "reunite with some old friends and meet... a lot of new ones."
They'll all band together to take on a formidable foe.
The villain's identity, on the other hand, is unknown.
In terms of Part Two, we can only guess who will appear and what the plot will entail.
We expect it to tie in with the events of the first sequel, but that's almost a given given that it's a sequel.
On October 7, 2022, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will be released in theaters.
Part Two will be released in 2023.
